YA Scavenger Hunt

Welcome to YA Scavenger Hunt! This tri-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck as a way to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes! At this hunt, you not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues, and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one signed book from each author on the hunt in my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online for 72 hours!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are TWO contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all! I am a part of the RED TEAM–but there is also a blue team for a chance to win a whole different set of twenty-five signed books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt homepage.

Directions: Below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my favorite number. Collect the favorite numbers of all the authors on the red team, and then add them up (don’t worry, you can use a calculator!).

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.
Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by December 2nd , at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.
Today, I am hosting the fabulous Gina Linko!
Gina Linko has a graduate degree in creative writing from DePaul University and lives outside Chicago with her husband and three children. Gina teaches college English part-time, but her real passion is sitting down at a blank computer screen and asking herself the question, “What if…?”
Find out more information by checking out the author website or find more about the author’s book here!

As for Gina’s exclusive content, she’s been awesome enough to share a romantic scene from FLUTTER!

We stood looking at each other for a long time in the moonlight, in front of the entrance to the path to the Dala Cabin.    The evergreens were sagging and weighted down, thick with heavy, wet snow from the earlier flurries.  The moonlight glistened and glowed off the frozen surface of the evergreens.  It twinkled, really.

Ash reached out slowly and touched my cheek only for an instant, with the pad of his thumb.  Then he moved his hand away from me, abruptly.

“Emery,” he said.

I took a sharp intake of air.  Business, I tried to tell myself.

“I can’t…”  He shook his head.  “I didn’t want to turn you down for dinner… the other day … I just can’t… ”

I nodded, wanting him to go on, wanting him to touch me again.  His touch was electric on my skin.

“I’m not…”  He took a step back from me.  “I’m not someone you can know, not …”

“I understand,” I said, although I didn’t.

He took another step back from me.  I moved forward without thinking, feeling pulled toward him, closing the space between us.  His eyes met mine, and the breath caught in my throat, every molecule in my body feeling pulled toward him, leaning me into his space, into his energy.  It was a heady feeling, disorienting.

Although I barely knew him, I didn’t know if I could pretend even one more second that this thing between us — whatever it was – wasn’t wonderful.

“I have to go,” he said, only leaning in closer to me, our faces only inches apart.  I could feel the warmth from his breath.

“No,” I whispered.  “Where are you going?”

He shook his head then, looked down, saying something under his breath.  I couldn’t be too sure what it was, but it sounded like, “Penance.”  But suddenly watching him, with his eyes cast down, his lashes shadowing his cheekbones, the way he held himself both leaning toward me, but also restraining himself, filling the space between us with his heady, soapy scent, I just couldn’t take it anymore.

So when he looked up, I closed the small distance between us.  I stood on my tiptoes, and I pressed my lips to his.  In my hurry, I missed a little bit, landing my lips more on the corner of his mouth, and for a second he didn’t react, but then he turned his face toward me, pressing his lips against mine, a full kiss, a real kiss.  And the fireworks exploded deep inside me, sending ribbons of heat from my center out to my limbs, a gorgeous, surprising feeling, like a warm breeze beneath my skin.

Both of his hands went to my face, gently.  And just when I thought he was going to pull away, he leaned into the kiss again, longer, deeper.  The heat inside me surging again.  I smiled behind the kiss, without meaning to, and I brushed my fingertips on his stubble, loving its feel against my fingertips.

He pulled away and we just looked at each other.  Should I apologize?  Make a joke?  Do it again?

“Emery,” he said, my name turning to music in his voice, the quiet deepness of it.  He closed his eyes for a moment, shook his head, smiled.  I wanted to kiss him again.  Right on that crooked eyetooth.  But when he opened his eyes, his smile disappeared, and he was himself again.  Measured.  Cool.  “Emery,” he said again.  A goodbye.

Then he turned on his heel and left.

What a great scene, right?

And don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Gina, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 17. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the red team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author! One of my absolute favorites, Tara Hudson!

5 days until Renegade Surfaces

It’s five days. DAYS, people, not weeks, months, years. DAYS! Until Renegade’s debut. And…I’m slightly freaking out. (*insert insane cackle here*)  Okay maybe more than slightly. But I’ve somehow managed despite many obstacles to put together a launch party.  Yay for me!  I’m so excited about this book that I wanted to throw a party to celebrate.  If you’re interested, take a peak at the below invite (isn’t it pretty?!) and, if you want RSVP to either by email or on the facebook invite page.  This is just so I can make sure there’s enough food and books there.

It’s in the building that inspired Sector 3, so I’m really excited to show it off a bit. So bring a friend, or friends, or a whole shipful of people if you wish.  The more the merrier.  There’s going to be lots of food, drinks, a reading, raffle, door prizes, and a signing.  Plus a bucket full of SWAG to giveaway.  But most importantly there’s going to be lots of fun!

So if you’re in the area, just stopping through, or planning an invasion, stop on by! I’d love to meet you and see you!

Elysium Underground Is LIVE!

I’m so excited to announce that my street team, The Elysium Underground, is live and looking for recruits!

What exactly is a street team and what do I have to do?

A street team is basically just another way for me to get word out about my book.  Similar to Gretchen McNeil’s Army of Ten (don’t worry, I checked with her first. 🙂 ) I’m offering prizes for spreading the word about my book.  I’m using a rankings system, but instead of me giving you a task to do, I’m offering a “bounty” for each task you do.  The “bounty” is just a certain number of points. And each rank is obtained by earning a certain number of points.

What’s in it for me?

A lot actually. Each ranking earns different swag including buttons, bookmarks, magnets, etc and a certain number of entries to be earned toward a HUGE monthly prize.  On top of that, the top two ranks earn a chance to have a character named after you and/or a chance to be named in my acknowledgement section.

I want more information.

Great! Go here and everything should be explained, but if you still have questions, feel free to email me and I’ll answer them ASAP. 🙂
