Gina Linko has a graduate degree in creative writing from DePaul University and lives outside Chicago with her husband and three children. Gina teaches college English part-time, but her real passion is sitting down at a blank computer screen and asking herself the question, “What if…?”

As for Gina’s exclusive content, she’s been awesome enough to share a romantic scene from FLUTTER!
We stood looking at each other for a long time in the moonlight, in front of the entrance to the path to the Dala Cabin. The evergreens were sagging and weighted down, thick with heavy, wet snow from the earlier flurries. The moonlight glistened and glowed off the frozen surface of the evergreens. It twinkled, really.
Ash reached out slowly and touched my cheek only for an instant, with the pad of his thumb. Then he moved his hand away from me, abruptly.
“Emery,” he said.
I took a sharp intake of air. Business, I tried to tell myself.
“I can’t…” He shook his head. “I didn’t want to turn you down for dinner… the other day … I just can’t… ”
I nodded, wanting him to go on, wanting him to touch me again. His touch was electric on my skin.
“I’m not…” He took a step back from me. “I’m not someone you can know, not …”
“I understand,” I said, although I didn’t.
He took another step back from me. I moved forward without thinking, feeling pulled toward him, closing the space between us. His eyes met mine, and the breath caught in my throat, every molecule in my body feeling pulled toward him, leaning me into his space, into his energy. It was a heady feeling, disorienting.
Although I barely knew him, I didn’t know if I could pretend even one more second that this thing between us — whatever it was – wasn’t wonderful.
“I have to go,” he said, only leaning in closer to me, our faces only inches apart. I could feel the warmth from his breath.
“No,” I whispered. “Where are you going?”
He shook his head then, looked down, saying something under his breath. I couldn’t be too sure what it was, but it sounded like, “Penance.” But suddenly watching him, with his eyes cast down, his lashes shadowing his cheekbones, the way he held himself both leaning toward me, but also restraining himself, filling the space between us with his heady, soapy scent, I just couldn’t take it anymore.
So when he looked up, I closed the small distance between us. I stood on my tiptoes, and I pressed my lips to his. In my hurry, I missed a little bit, landing my lips more on the corner of his mouth, and for a second he didn’t react, but then he turned his face toward me, pressing his lips against mine, a full kiss, a real kiss. And the fireworks exploded deep inside me, sending ribbons of heat from my center out to my limbs, a gorgeous, surprising feeling, like a warm breeze beneath my skin.
Both of his hands went to my face, gently. And just when I thought he was going to pull away, he leaned into the kiss again, longer, deeper. The heat inside me surging again. I smiled behind the kiss, without meaning to, and I brushed my fingertips on his stubble, loving its feel against my fingertips.
He pulled away and we just looked at each other. Should I apologize? Make a joke? Do it again?
“Emery,” he said, my name turning to music in his voice, the quiet deepness of it. He closed his eyes for a moment, shook his head, smiled. I wanted to kiss him again. Right on that crooked eyetooth. But when he opened his eyes, his smile disappeared, and he was himself again. Measured. Cool. “Emery,” he said again. A goodbye.
Then he turned on his heel and left.
And don’t forget to enter the contest for a chance to win a ton of signed books by me, Gina, and more! To enter, you need to know that my favorite number is 17. Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the red team and you’ll have all the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

Blog Answer: At christmas our family all do secret santa 🙂
Favorite Christmas tradition is when all the kids & adults open their presents at the same time.
My favorite tradition is gathering up the Christmas books (Polar Express, Apple Tree Christmas, The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree) and movies (Muppet’s Christmas Carol, Home Alone, The Christmas Story) and snuggling in with family and friends on the couch to enjoy all the lovely stories!
I have three favorite traditions around Christmas time:
(1) having a “putting up the tree” party with whoever I live with
(2) “crafting time” since I always try to handmake at least ONE of my gifts
(3) grabbing a cup of hot cocoa, some popcorn and a blanket and then watching the ultimate Christmas three – The Holiday, Love Actually & Serendipity
🙂
My sister and I used to wake up extra early and then give our two brothers a rude awakening by jumping on their beds and/or pouring water on them. Now the tradition has passed on to my nieces, who love to jump on MY bed!
Being with my family on Christmas Eve and Day. Since I don’t live near many of them, it’s always nice to see them 🙂

This is actually slightly embarrassing, but my Mom celebrates Christmas and my Dad celebrates Hanukkah. My Dad refuses to have a Christmas tree in the house, so we combine the holidays by having a Hanukkah bush. It’s a small bush covered in Jewish ornaments and our gifts are left underneath it along with a whole ton of gelt… lmao
My favorite holiday tradition is opening three of our Christmas presents on Christmas Eve, so we don’t die of anticipation.
My favorite holiday tradition is cooking with my dad every year, just me and him. It is always so much fun! thanks for the giveaway! Happy Holidays!

It’s called Christmas in the Village, and it’s actually tomorrow night! 😀 All of the stores stay open late and have treats for all the people who come visit, and in the centre of town there is a place to get hot dogs and hot chocolate. There’s also a big bonfire and sleigh rides, and at the end of the night, we have some awesome fireworks. 😀
My favourite Christmas tradition is probably spreading out opening presents all through the morning. We can open our little stocking gifts before breakfast but we had to wait until after breakfast to open the ones under the tree. The Tomten (from Astrid Lindgren’s book The Tomten and the Fox) visits our house every year. He leaves a scavenger hunt, sometimes of candy canes, sometimes of toys or tiny letters for my nephews, who are wowed by the Tomten’s ability to hide things without leaving tracks (bless my tall husband).
On Christmas eve we bundle up the girls, in their jammies, and drive around the town and look at Christmas lights. My family used to do it when I was little too.
